There are many nutrition myths ‘out there’ in society, including the one about cholesterol in foods being bad!
We’ve been told not to eat egg yolks, butter, fat, and cheese because it might just clog our arteries and lead to heart disease.
This is HOT OFF THE PRESS!!
The Dietary Guidelines for Americans Committee is reviewing the current literature because the new nutrition guidelines are due to be released soon and here is their comment about cholesterol:
Cholesterol. Previously, the Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommended that cholesterol intake be limited to no more than 300 mg/day. The 2015 DGAC will not bring forward this recommendation, because available evidence shows no appreciable relationship between consumption of dietary cholesterol and serum cholesterol… Cholesterol is not a nutrient of concern for overconsumption.
The well respected Times Magazine wrote about it here, and the World Nutrition Journal is due to publish their thoughts (I got a preliminary preview of their document and will keep you up to date 😉 ).
Finally one truth may just come out of hiding!!
There Are MANY Nutrition Myths
As a nutrition researcher I am well aware of MANY myths like this surrounding the foods that we eat.
But as someone out in the public arena, you may just ‘believe’ the common messages that we all hear from mass media, mass health sites, government organizations, and television.
And although we’d think they would have our best interests at heart, the truth is that they are WAY BEHIND the current literature. They are often doing the public a disservice because they are still promoting outdated information.
Good Food Eating Resources
I have written and spoken on the topic of heart disease and cholesterol before so be sure to check out these other helpful resources.

Eat The Yolks!
They are one of the most nutritious foods we can eat.
Eggs are the absolute gold standard in protein quality. They are FULL of amazing vitamins and minerals, some of which are difficult to find in other food sources such as Vitamin D and Choline.
And now you don’t just have to believe me because The Dietary Guidelines for Americans Committee has released this information publicly themselves.
Eat the yolks and ENJOY them 🙂
